7.1 Basic System Architecture

The functional logic of the data system is divided into three broad categories:

  1. Acquisition: The acquisition module is used for setting GC and MS parameters, collection of data and the storage of data during collection. With the exception of communications with an autosampler, most interactions with the instrument hardware happen via the acquisition package.
  2. Data Analysis: The data analysis module is used for extracting, displaying and printing data, library searching, quantitative calibration and analysis, etc. The data analysis package can be used even if the instrument hardware is offline.
  3. Sequencing: This module is used for automated multiple acquisitions and data analysis.
